Austin Residential Landscape Design

landscape installation: Rocha Services

pool installation: Laguna Clara Pools

landscape lighting: Illumination Concepts

This project was shaped by a careful balance of priorities. The clients wanted to preserve much of their existing backyard, work within a limited investment, and still incorporate a swimming pool, an element that would naturally occupy a significant portion of the site. The challenge was to introduce a focused intervention that worked within these constraints while still feeling cohesive and complete.

An existing porch, composed of multiple materials, lacked visual unity. We addressed this by extending the pool deck all the way to the back doors, bridging over the porch and tying the architecture and landscape together into a single surface. The configuration of the pool deck created two distinct outdoor rooms: one for lounging and another for a small bistro setting.

The pool itself was intentionally simple, relying on a single focal element— a low site wall with an integrated water feature—to anchor the space. This wall provides a visual backdrop to the pool while subtly separating it from a deep planting bed beyond.

By shifting the pool slightly into the yard, we were able to retain multiple existing planting beds. From inside the home, views unfold in layers: planting, hardscape, and planting again. This sequence reinforces the clients’ desire to keep their garden presence intact while accommodating new program, resulting in a landscape that feels both restrained and resolved.
