This project began by addressing an unwelcoming, steep grade from the curb that required visitors to enter via the neighbor's driveway. We added steel retained steps and moved the gate to provide an easy entry for guests. Within the gate we moved the original pavers and created an intimate space with seating around a chiminea to enjoy chatting with neighbors or warming up on cool evenings. The obscured front door is set a bit far back from the entry gate and created confusion for first time visitors so we added a brick pathway and a planter to guide the eye to the entrance. We continued the brick past an existing boardwalk that transitions into the dining patio; a previously unused passage leading to the carport. String lights invite well-lit entertainment and landscape lighting throughout showcases lush planting and guides guests through the many living spaces. Quietly offset from the carport and detached office, we refreshed the old play area with a cowboy pool and lots of greenery for a private respite from the outer world.
