This family has a large, steeply-sloped backyard that they wanted to make usable. We proposed leveling out the highest area with sod for a play zone, a gravel patio with a view over the house for lounging by a fire pit on the edge of the sod, and reorganizing the deckspace off of the house for dining and grilling. The bottom of the yard has the workout area, cutting around to the side yard that we've usurped from the front. Their front yard needed curb appeal by changing out the surface treatment and adding more durable native plants. Privacy was a big concern, so we installed a line of clumping bamboo along the bottom fence.
