Open Envelope Studio, LLC is a landscape design/build firm with a family-friendly and comfortable work culture.  Our design/admin office is based in East Austin and we have residential projects based around all around Austin, Texas.  We also have a fabrication shop close to Highland ACC that supports the on-site projects.  We have been around since December of 2011, co-founded by Angelica and Matt Norton.

Junior Landscape Architect/Designer


Description: This full-time position will render existing conditions of a residential project in a 3D model, assist senior designers in their design workload, produce construction document and permit sets from Sketchup models for our build team, among other tasks.  There is a lot of room for growth from this entry-level position and we're looking to hire for a long-term role.


  • MLA, BLA, BSLA, M.Arch, or B.Arch

  • Proficiency with Sketchup and familiarity with its sister program, Layout

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for budgeting

  • Graphic design skills for rendering 3D models, base maps, and drawing sets

  • Eagerness to learn multi-disciplinary skills

  • Strong work ethic, reliable, and able to self-manage responsibilities

  • Work effectively with the design team and prioritize time to meet deadlines

  • Detail-oriented and able to self-edit work for a high level of accuracy

  • Knowledge of materials and construction (including Central-Texas plants) a plus

Landscape/Build Team Members

Description: This full-time position is on our landscape installation and build team.  The position requires a high attention to detail.  Must be able to communicate in English but Spanish is an additional plus.  Pay depending on experience. We generally work Monday-Friday, 7:30-4:00 and pay weekly. We provide the basic tools required to complete job. We are flexible about allowing time off for family or vacation as long as we are given sufficient notice. After a trial period we allow after-hours access to our fabrication shop for personal projects.We have quarterly work gatherings to show our appreciation for employees. The majority of our work is within central Austin with some extending West-ward. We are a family owned and operated local business. We pride ourselves as a drama free workplace so please only apply if you have a great attitude.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Arriving on time ready to work (with accurate clock-ins via Tsheets)

  • Ability to work efficiently alone and with a team

  • Reading and following construction drawings

  • Digging post holes

  • Setting posts in concrete

  • Excavating with hand tool

  • Grading

  • Plant install

  • Knowledge of central texas plants and proper installation techniques

  • Gravel install

  • Design layout

  • Use of a transit level

  • Small repairs of pvc irrigation lines

If you are proficient in the following it is an extreme plus (we are willing to train and adjust hourly pay for experience):

  • General wood/metal fabrication skills

  • Cutting steel with a specialized metal cutting circular saw

  • Steel with a chop saw

  • Wire feed flux core welding (MIG a plus)

  • Deck framing

  • Finish carpentry

  • Porch screening

  • Previous experience with steel retaining walls is a huge plus
