Now that construction on their home expansion and remodel was complete, this family was ready to improve their landscape. One of their design needs included driveway ribbons, a carport on the side of the house, and side entry. We also rethought the entry sequence to a cedar deck, pulling the path to the side to frame steel retained levels, which are edged by lines of bunch grasses, bicolor irises, and red yuccas. The backyard was overgrown but spacious; we created a living space to grill and dine on a second deck with integrated shade sail off the back door that overlooks a grassy play area surrounded by plants at the perimeter. A combination of barefoot-friendly pea gravel and Texas basalt give contrast to the warm tone of the wood and soft pop of green from turf grass.
